A sermon preached in 2004 at the Bakers Creek Baptist church by James Carl Jones pastor.

We have been studying the miracles that were preformed by Jesus in the Gospel of John. We have among other things looked at how the miracles tell us something's in regards to salvation.

The 1st miracle was the changing of water to wine which tells us that there has to be a change from one state to another, from a sinner to a saint, from a child of the devil to a child of God, from being a condemned man or women to being redeemed.

The 2nd miracle was the healing of the noble mans son this tells us that we must believe what the bible tells us is the way of salvation. We believe that mankind is born a sinner because of disobedience of Adam. That mankind has a choice to be free from the effects of the fall and that is to do what God says and he says believe in the death, burial and resurrection of his son the Lord Jesus the Christ. That his Blood cleanse us from sin and we are able to go to heaven based on His work and his alone.

Today we want to see 3 things found in Gods salvation in the healing at Bethesda John 5:2-9

1. ALL SINS ARE FORGIVEN

John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

The bible tells us that the water that the angel troubled could heal every disease that mankind had. The bible does not say every disease but such and such but whatsoever the person had.
Jesus shed his blood for all sinners and it takes away all sins..

1 John 1:7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

We see this in the next point in whosoever that comes. The bible does not say everyone but such and such

2. THERE IS ROOM FOREVERYONE WHO COMES

John 5:7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

This is where I disagree with those who follow Calvin's line of thinking. The bible says that Salvation is offered to all people and who so ever comes can find forgiveness

John 3:15-16
15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Rom 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Rev 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

3. THE EFFECTS OF SALVATION ARE IMMEDIATE
John 5:9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

When you come to the Lord your sins are forgiven you are given a new name which we call the process of regeneration and you are sealed by the Holy Spirit.

God has provided us with the means to be made whole and it's found in his son. You to can come and receive immediate freedom from what ever has you bound. It does not matter this morning if you are young or old 38 or 98 God wants you to be made whole.

I HAVE NO MAN. WHEN THE WATER IS TROUBLED,
John 5:1-9
5:1 After this there was a feast of the Jews; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool , which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool , and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.
5 And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.
6 When Jesus saw him lie, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?
7 The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool : but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.
8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

John 5:2-4
2 Now there is at Jerusalem by the sheep market a pool, which is called in the Hebrew tongue Bethesda, having five porches.
3 In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.
4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

I would like to draw your attention to the reason that the 5 porches were built. They were built because of the pool. Without the pool there was no reason to build the porches. The porches were built in an area that was around the pool. The pool could be seen and it could be felt by everyone who was in the porches.
Today people are building porches (CHURCHES) without (CHRIST) the pool. They have what I heard described by one of my brethren as a fruit stand religion. The fruit stand religion can be found many of our churches in the world and it was first seen in Genesis 4th chapter.

Gen 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

This is not the offering that God had asked for from fallen man. Abel who was Cain brother brought an offering that God did approve of.

Gen 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

This instruction for the offering is seen when God made coats of skin for their mother and father.

Gen 3:21 Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.

God called Abel offering an excellent offering

Heb 11:4 By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts: and by it he being dead yet speaketh.

Because he offered an offering the why God had instructed them to do. The world today is not coming to God the way he has instructed them to do in his word. Jesus said

John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Now how do we know this is the right way or the correct pool to build our porch around?

Acts 5:30-32
30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.
31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.
32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

So any porches that mankind builds has got to be built around the pool God has given the world. If not they have porches without a pool.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

IS YOUR PORCH BUILT AROUND GODS POOL

John 5:4 For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

This may come as a shock to you but there are times when God can be the source of your troubled waters. He may not be the reason our water are trouble all the time but he allows other things to stir them as well. As with the case of Job he allowed an angel to trouble his servant waters,

Job 2:6 And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.

Notice if you will a very important part of the verse

John 5:4 ,,,,,,,,,,,at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water:

We have two phases we sometime use when GOOD and BAD things happen.

THIS COULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN AT A BETTER TIME

THIS COULD NOT HAVE HAPPEN AT A WORSTER TIME

Did you ever think that in both cases you should say?

THIS COULD NOT HAVE COME AT ANY OTHER TIME

God know when his children have matured enough to handle stress as well as when those that are not his children have the best opportunity to turn from sin and embrace him.
When I build a scaffold at work I know just what to put under the legs of it to do handle the weight and the people that are going to be working on it. In 27 years of building scaffolds at sometime a height of 25 feet or better. I have never had one collapses because of not having the proper padding under the legs. I have had to go back and add another piece of wood because of them settling. But people are petty confident when they get on my scaffolds. The job does not stop there because now we have to make sure that someone does not place to much weigh on the boards and endanger someone life.
God is like this in the fact that he knows what to put under our legs to keep us up and he knows how much weight it takes to take us down. All Gods people will at one time or another will face troubled water. The bible teaches us that we serve a Sovereign God that is nothing can take him by surprise as to what comes our way. When we accept this then nothing is by chance but divinely allowed or given and it comes from a loving God and Father so it must be to our benefit.
God has his reasons for allowing your waters to be troubled this morning. He is not a God that takes pleasure in the hardship we find ourselves in. It is for a purpose and when we have gone through the troubled waters we will be better for having had our boat rocked.
So hang on remember that God knows that you can handle the rocking and he controls the winds that effect the water from above and he knows what will come up from the depths as well. Once again there are two ways the waters can be stirred from above and from below. But only one way they can affect us and that is if God allows it and he has only one goal in allowing it and that is to benefit us in our life and in our service for him.

GOD KNOWS WHEN TO ALLOW STRESS AND HOW MUCH TO ALLOW

John 5:7
The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

We as Christian should always be the first to go to the side of people who are suffering or going through trails. For the Christian to give a deaf ear to people who they know are in troubled waters, is to lose the chance to witness of the love and care that the father has for all mankind. We need to give words of encouragement and physically be at the side of the suffering. We have many things that will trouble the water in our life. It may be from sickness (something in the water) or physical (something on the water) in both cases the saint can offer help. Jesus talked of both kinds of waters in Matt 25:34-36

Matt 25:34-36
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

WATER THAT IS TROUBLED WITH IN
I was an hungred,
I was thirsty
I was sick

WATER THAT IS TROUBLED WITHOUT
Naked,
I was a stranger,
I was in prison

In the above 6 things we find the troubled waters that face all men and women in this world. But God has given us the means to help those that find themselves in the turbulence waters of live. It can be called the YE 'S of the blessed.

ye gave me meat:
ye gave me drink:
ye took me in:
ye clothed me:
ye visited me:
ye came unto me.

When the Christian does these to those in troubled waters they are showing that they care and the one who calls us to go and help those in the trouble waters cares as well. To do the opposite of the YE'S is to be of a different nature and a different kingdom. The feeling one gets when they have help to bring peace to someone in troubled waters cannot be put in words.
The next time you see the sound or the sight of troubled waters in someone life be the first to come and help restore peace. Show that like our Father in Heaven we are not just watchers but are willing to help as well.

BE A LIGHTHOUSE TO THE ONES WHO FIND THEMSELVES IN TROUBLED WATER

People come to church Sunday after Sunday and they hear the Holy Spirit ask them

John 5:6 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,he saith unto him, Wilt thou be made whole?

Sunday after Sunday people leave this house and other like it giving the Holy Spirit this answer. Not today maybe next time or let me get something straiten out first or let me clean up my act first then you can have me. What they don't realize is that there may not be a next time and they can't straiten out their life on there own and they sure can't clean up their act unless the blood of Christ is applied to that life.
When Adam and Eve fell they became a part of a circle and not a whole. They had lost their completeness in the Lord. They were spiritually and soon to be physically dead. The circle had been broken and fellowship with God needed to be restored. This was done before Jesus came and died on the cross through the sacrifice of animals and the shedding of the animal's blood. But it was impossible for something that had fallen under the cruse of Adam to do away with sin.

Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

But Blood had to be shed to receive forgiveness

Heb 9:22 And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.

So God sent a sacrifice that man could not provide for himself. That sacrifice was his son.

Luke 22:20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.

Matt 26:28 For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Col 1:15 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:

Jesus the Christ is the only why the circle can be restored. He is the only one that can replace the missing part that Adam.

Rom 5:19 For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.

Jesus the Christ shed his blood on the cross and made it possible to restore the broken circle. So when the Holy Spirit ask you today if you want to be made whole answer Him with Yes I want to be made whole.
